Those anxious heartbeats, panicky knees, sweat dripping down the spine, glistening forehead, nervous hand movements, askew stance, uneasy eye-movement and so on -- all swarm around the speaker like bees do around a hive. Forgetting the next sentence in the middle of speech, realizing that one is speaking the wrong sentence a sentence later and not being able to go back, spotting one's own grammatical gaffe, trying to avoid staring eyeballs, trying to balance between nervousness and arrogance - these are some of the feelings I go through whenever I am delivering a featured speech. I know I am at the beginning of the beginning of a long journey. Or on the first paragraph of the first chapter of a tome.
Learning and self-improvement never stops. Writing, speaking and articulating my thoughts in a decent way is the aspiration of my life. I have been fortunate enough to be part of an amazing environment called Toastmasters. And there is my club, Everest Toastmasters, that never ceases to energize and inspire me.
Just started reading 'Public Speaking for Success' by Dale Carnegie. It's a treat.
