Widely called 'the beautiful game', the game of football is a global phenomenon. World cup is the culmination of that, happening every four years. Though Nepal has yet to go a long way in football to even dream of being in world cup, the world cup fever is no less intense. From kids playing football at laws and galleys to the markets awash with jerseys, it is a real treat to watch. Got one jersey for my kid too, an yellow one with 'FCB' on it. Guess the country.
Incessant talks on the street corners, public transport and even workplaces give an unavoidable bombardment of world cup hype. Prediction games are also common. People raising certain funds, predicting, accumulating scores based on correct predictions and using the spare fund to have fun. Fun means food, booze, noise, gatherings and everything in between. Have invested 1500 NRs. Prediction got wrong by a wide margin in the first game between Russia and Saudi Arabia. Looks like I need to learn soothsaying and astrology first.
First game was yesterday night. Did not watch but was constantly reminded by the shouts from kids cheering goals. There were plenty of those.
Full month of football fever. Just started. Can only get more intense.
